International collaboration

Energy Saving Trust has a long history of partnership working in the UK and beyond. We work with governments, energy agencies, academic institutions and the private sector.

Over the past 15 years, we have collaborated with over 35 international projects focused on researching and analysing policy, programme development and implementation. Our international collaboration gives us access to insight and knowledge, which informs our own thinking and contributes to the evolution of our UK work. It also supports market transformation and building the capacity of key stakeholders in other countries.

European Energy Network

Energy Saving Trust is a proud and active member of the European Energy Network (EnR) – a voluntary network of 24 national energy agencies from EU member states and neighbour countries. Each EnR member agency supports its government to transform energy markets and mitigate climate change. This involves undertaking research and development, piloting innovative approaches and designing and implementing policy, or other market measures, which drive the uptake of energy efficiency, renewable energy and clean transport.

Energy Saving Trust has been a member since 2003 and represents the UK within this agency network. One of the primary objectives of the network is to facilitate international comparison,  information sharing and knowledge transfer, which takes place primarily through eight working groups. EnR working groups also allow member agencies to jointly create and implement projects within the framework of EU-funded programmes, such as the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 Programme.

The network is based on a principle of voluntary membership and is chaired by an annual rotating Presidency and Secretariat. In 2019, Energy Saving Trust held the Presidency.

Efficiency for Access

The Efficiency for Access Coalition is a global initiative that aims to harness the power of energy efficiency to accelerate universal access to modern energy services suited to off-grid and weak-grid situations in developing countries.

Initiated by a core group of governments, global financial institutions, and philanthropies, the Efficiency for Access Coalition is a voluntary partnership that brings together a range of programmes and support mechanisms. It aims to achieve faster and higher impact results by exploiting synergies, minimising duplication, and enabling more strategic, better informed investment decisions for the co-design of new activities and interventions.

Energy Saving Trust provides the Secretariat for the Efficiency for Access Coalition together with CLASP, an international appliance energy efficiency specialist not-for-profit organisation. The Secretariat facilitates knowledge sharing, activity coordination, and broader engagement with, and support to, key market stakeholders in the nexus of energy efficiency and energy access.

LEAP4SME

Co-ordinated by ENEA, LEAP4SME aims to support Member States in establishing or improving effective policies for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to undergo energy audits and implement cost-effective, recommended energy-saving measures through identifying the barriers for unlocking energy efficiency measures, mobilising private stakeholders, and proposing effective solutions to realise both energy and non-energy benefits.

The LEAP4SME consortium includes nine European National Energy Agencies and a communication partner to conduct research analysis and stakeholder involvement in nine countries.
