New government consultation on regulating CO2 emissions for new cars, vans and HDVs

New government consultation on regulating CO2 emissions for new cars, vans and HDVsWednesday, 29 July, 2020

Department for Transport (DfT) are holding two consultations on plans for a CO2 emissions regulatory scheme for new heavy-duty vehicles (HDVs), and for new cars and vans registered in the UK after the EU transition period ends. The government are seeking views on implementation plans and operational procedures before both consultations close on 21 August 2020.

Furthermore, the government is also seeking views on bringing forward the end to the sale of new petrol, diesel and hybrid cars and vans from 2040 to 2035, or earlier if a faster transition appears feasible. This consultation is open for responses until 31 July 2020.

The Department for Transport are also holding an open consultation for ideas on the steps which should be taken to reduce emissions from transport and creating a plan to ensure transport in the UK is net zero in emissions by 2050.
