Renewable Heat Incentive

The UK Government’s RHI scheme enables consumers to receive payments if they install an eligible renewable heat technology.

Please note: the Renewable Heat Incentive closed to new applications on 31 March 2022.

Challenge

The UK Government’s domestic Renewable Heat Incentive scheme enables consumers to receive payments if they install an eligible renewable heat technology. With a range of calculators available online from different bodies, both the UK and Scottish Governments felt that consumers needed access to a tool that was independent, credible and trusted.

Insight

Our understanding of the energy sector and customer engagement coupled with our data and insight services enabled us to understand the need for an online tool that would be robust and effective.

Action

We developed the domestic Renewable Heat Incentive payment calculator, an interactive web-tool that sits on the UK Government website. We made use of our unique calculations engine, which produces dynamic, tailored energy advice, and created a user interface that enables customers to get a robust estimate of the money they could receive. The tool acts as the official scheme tool to provide users and installers with confidence in the outputs.

Result

“This has been an innovative project, both in terms of project structure and the service that has been developed. It is a really good example of government working with a third party to develop and launch a user-friendly service to support policy. The Payment Calculator is seen as an exemplar of best practice within DECC.”
