Do you own an electric vehicle charge point on the ChargePlace Scotland (CPS) network? If so, it’s time to start planning for the upcoming transition from a public to a commercial network.
ChargePlace Scotland (CPS), established by the Scottish Government over a decade ago, is entering a period of significant change. Over the next two years, the network will shift away from the current CPS model, with a stronger emphasis on commercial investment in public electric vehicle (EV) charging. As a result, Transport Scotland will not renew the existing contract to operate CPS once it expires.
This transition aims to accelerate the growth of EV infrastructure to meet the evolving needs of all drivers in the future. Charge point owners should begin planning for this change, which includes finding an alternative Backoffice solution.
To support charge, point Owners in this process, Energy Saving Trust will be hosting three webinars, providing guidance on the best path forward for your organisation and its charge points.
The second session will take place on Microsoft Teams, on Wednesday 22 January 2025 at 10am.
Agenda:
- An overview of the transition process.
- A list of CPOs and CPNOs and an overview of operating models: this will cover a list created to help operators know what CPOs and CPNOs are available in Scotland.
- A detailed step by step guide on what operators need to do to transition away from CPS: this will also include information on smaller scale and low utilisation sites and when accessibility should be considered.
- What to do with CPS branded material and RFID cards: information on roaming agreements and CPS branding.
- Community groups and local tariffs.
- Distribution network operator support: an overview of Scotland’s distribution network operators (DNOs) and the information they provide.
If you missed the first session, don’t worry, we will be recovering the important point from the first webinar in session 2. Session 1 is also available to watch here.
