Additional support for businesses can be found here.

The Destination Net Zero programme is one of the Scottish Government’s funded Covid-19 tourism recovery projects. It aims to provide support for businesses to develop their Net Zero Action Plans, building their resilience and aligning with Scottish Government targets.

The Fund will contribute to businesses’ recovery and resilience and prepare Scottish Tourism for the future and the growth of electric vehicle (EV) usage.

Installing an EV charge point will enable businesses to demonstrate their commitment to responsible tourism practices and ensure their offering will make it easier for visitors to make environmentally conscious travel decisions.

What funding is available?

The funding available is 75% of the total cost of the charge point and installation (including applicable VAT), up to a maximum of £15,000.

Funding will be allocated on a first come, first served basis until 8 September 2022 (or earlier if budget is used before this date). Funding is not available for installations that have already taken place or for installations already in progress.

Who can apply?

The Fund is open to all eligible tourism businesses in Scotland who have an appropriate space in which an EV charge point can be safely installed and used by visitors and staff.  Read the full criteria document.

The business must own the land on which the EV charge point is installed or, if the property is leased, have written permission from the landowner for the installation.

It is a condition of the funding that following installation, the EV charge point must be made available for visitors or guests to use, for which a charge can be levied by the business.

Eligibility criteria

The Fund is only available for micro or small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) businesses based in Scotland who have been trading for at least 12 months.

Applicants must be a tourism business and must market themselves as a tourism business.

For additional information on eligibility, please read the full eligibility criteria.

This funding cannot be claimed in conjunction with any other electric vehicle charge point funding.

Find an approved installer

To be eligible for funding, a quote must be obtained from one of our approved installers. As the funding only covers part of the cost, it is recommended that you source multiple quotes to obtain a competitive price.

Please note, you only need to supply Energy Saving Trust with your preferred quote. Further details are available on the application form.

What supporting documentation is required?

As well as your application form, we require the following documents to complete our assessment and consider awarding funding:

  • Most recent published accounts that have been audited/verified by an accountant or copy of filed tax return to verify that the business has been operating for a minimum of 12 months.
  • A recent bank statement (one from the last three months). Redacted statements will be accepted provided bank account name, sort code and account number are clearly shown.
  • If a leaseholder or tenant, written permission from the property owner regarding the installation of the EV charge point(s). This written permission should also include the remaining term left on the lease or the date of the lease expiration.
  • A copy of the quotation from an approved installer that you will be using for the installation of the EV charge point(s).
  • Valid annual insurance document to cover third party liability and/or employee liability insurance for the year ending in 2022/23 tax year.
