Energy Saving Trust’s outgoing Chief Executive, Philip Sellwood will be taking the stage at the FutureBuild 2020 conference at ExCel, London, to chair a discussion with Juliet Davenport, Chief Executive of Good Energy. Philip will be talking to Juliet at 2.15pm on the Energy stage, following her keynote address on energy security, the energy transition and the future of energy generation.
With around 40% of total carbon footprint coming from the built environment in the UK, the event provides a timely focus on reducing carbon emissions in buildings. It aims to unite the most forward-thinking companies and organisations with industry mobilisers who hold significant decision-making power and are committed to driving positive change in their sector, and beyond.
Building standards are set to become an area of increased focus in the coming months, with moves already afoot to ensure a switch to low carbon heating in new builds from 2025. Energy Saving Trust figures show we need to reduce emission levels from heating and providing hot water to our homes by 95% to reach net zero targets by 2050.
FutureBuild 2020 provides an opportunity to focus on a number of the issues around this transition. Although, it’s not just new buildings that will be affected, given 80% of buildings that will be standing in 2050 have already been built, there is an urgent requirement for retrofit in existing UK buildings.
Uniting industry
FutureBuild 2020 takes place from 3-5 March 2020 at ExCel London with the aim of uniting industry innovators to become the catalyst for mitigating climate change. The event provides a platform for professionals from across the built environment to debate issues, discuss new technologies and push-forward game-changing innovations.
There’s a central Conference Stage, which features politicians, academics and industry shapers discussing and debating the biggest macro level issues. Philip and Juliet’s panel forms part of the Energy keynote stage, one of six across the event floor which will look at the specific challenges impacting Building, Offsite, Energy, Interiors, Resourceful Materials and Critical Infrastructure.
The event’s industry leading knowledge programme is dedicated to driving change and encouraging innovation through learning. The sessions on the keynote stages will share the latest thinking and research, while the conference will provide an opportunity to discuss and debate the biggest issues facing the built environment from the climate emergency, to the future of digital construction.
