The Local Government Support Programme helps local authorities decarbonise transport, improve air quality and increase electric vehicle adoption.

The programme is fully funded by the Department for Transport and available to all local authorities across England.

Many local authorities are not sure where to begin with their electric vehicle, chargepoint or staff travel plans, or are looking to build their knowledge of the EV and chargepoint sectors ahead of procurement.

We help councils to make links between multiple policies and develop effective, informed strategies. We know the importance of sharing best practice and aim to put local authorities in touch with one another to share experiences and ideas.

About the team

We provide support through three dedicated regional account managers who can offer help, expertise and technical guidance. We’re a friendly, flexible team and will work with you to tailor our support.

Since the team was established in October 2018, we’ve helped over 85 local authorities progress their electric vehicle and sustainable travel projects (as of January 2021).

  • Our support is always free and impartial.
  • 85% of local authorities are highly satisfied with our support (feedback survey, January 2021).
  • We’re in conversation with over 100 local authorities, ranging from districts to combined authorities, and can facilitate knowledge sharing between authorities.

Interested in funding for residential chargepoints?

Local authorities can apply for funding to cover up to 75% of the capital costs for procuring and installing chargepoints in residential areas without off-street parking. The chargepoints can be installed at on-street locations or in car parks.
