The UK Government has confirmed that it’s committing £13.2 billion to fund its Warm Homes Plan. This comes as part of the Chancellor’s Comprehensive Spending Review.
Responding to the review, Stew Horne, our Group Head of Sector Intelligence and External Affairs, said:
“The Chancellor’s announcement is a significant milestone for those who have been calling for the UK Government to deliver the full £13.2 billion of its manifesto commitment to upgrade five million homes.
“With this firm funding commitment, we now look forward to having clarity on how the Warm Homes Plan will deliver on this ambition. This is an opportunity for the UK Government to put right years of disjointed policies around home energy upgrades. We must now see a joined-up roadmap for a large scale roll out of home upgrades to make them warmer, permanently reduce energy bills and create skilled jobs across the country.
“Energy Saving Trust strongly recommends that the Warm Homes Plan includes a financial offering for all households, including grants for those in fuel poverty and a national advice service in England. We know how vital these interventions are from our experience of delivering similar initiatives in other parts of the UK. If scaled up, this service would empower households with the tools and knowledge to make long term, positive changes to their homes.
“The Warm Homes Plan is a pivotal moment for the UK’s energy resilience with the opportunity to lower energy demand and build a more secure, stable energy future – now is the time for bold action and this is an opportunity that must not be wasted.”
