Workplace charge point funding

Microbusinesses and third sector organisations in rural and island areas of Scotland can now apply for a grant to install electric vehicle (EV) charge points on their premises. 

Funded by Transport Scotland, the grant covers up to 100% of the purchase and installation costs, up to £5,000. It is designed to help make switching to low‑emission transport more affordable for smaller organisations. 

The grant is only for private charge points, used by staff or fleet vehicles. It is not for public charging. 

You can apply if you are one of the following: 

• a microbusiness 
• a sole trader 
• a third sector organisation 

And you own or have permission to carry out work on privately owned land on a Scottish island or a Category 5-8 postcode under the Scottish Government’s 8‑Fold Urban Rural Classification. 

To qualify as a microbusiness or sole trader you must:  

• Employ nine or fewer full‑time employees. 
• Have an annual turnover of £632,000 or less, or a balance sheet total of up to £316,000 in both the current and preceding financial year. 
• Currently operate, and have been in operation for at least two years, with premises in Scotland. 

To qualify as a third sector organisation you must:  

• Be a charity, community group or not-for-profit organisation  in operation for at least two years with premises in Scotland.

You’ll need to send us your preferred quote from an approved installer when you apply. We recommend getting three quotes to make sure you get good value for money. 

In addition to the funding available through our programme, you may also be eligible for support through the UK Government’s Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS), delivered by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV).

Additional funding support may be available through OZEV. We encourage you to review the eligibility criteria and inform your installer if you choose to apply.

Your installer must be approved by both us and the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles for you to receive the funding. You can download our list of eligible installers.
