Accessibility statement

This website is run by Energy Saving Trust. We’re committed to providing a website that’s accessible to as many people as possible. For this we pledge to: 

• Regularly test and improve our website for accessibility. 
• Ensure accessibility is a requirement for all future website developments. 
• Provide inclusive functionality, like keyboard navigation and the use ARIA labels. 
• Make website text as simple as possible to understand.  

You should be able to: 

• Change colours, contrast levels and fonts using your browser or device settings.  
• Navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software.
• Listen to most of the website using a screen reader.

We’re committed to making our website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.   

We aim to adhere to the World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.2 (WCAG 2.2) at AA level.

The W3C guidelines explain how to make web content accessible to people with a wide array of disabilities, such as:

• motor impairments
• visual impairments
• cognitive disabilities

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2  AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below. 

Non-accessible content 

We know that some parts of this website aren’t fully accessible:

• Most older PDF documents aren’t fully accessible to screen reader software. We aim to use PDFs only where necessary. 
• Some of our older videos don’t have transcripts or captions.
• The colour contrast for our breadcrumbs is insufficient for certain sections of the website. We aim to address this by December 2026.
• Some of our links aren’t descriptive enough.
• We know that some pages have inconsistent heading hierarchies. We’re amending these as part of our content review process, prioritising the most viewed pages, to deliver the greatest impact. 
• We know we need to make some improvements to ARIA labels.   

Content not within the scope of the accessibility regulations 

PDFs and other documents. We do not need to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.  

Live video. We don’t plan to add captions to live video streams and webinars because live video is exempt from the accessibility regulations.

Enforcement procedure 

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the ‘accessibility regulations’).

If you’re not happy with how we respond to your complaint, contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS). 

In 2024 we developed the first version of our Design System. This incorporates accessibility from the outset, ensuring that accessibility considerations are embedded in components and patterns. We created it so that future developments on all Energy Saving Trust websites meet accessibility standards where practically possible.  

Accessibility is part of our equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) commitments. We continue to build upon internal guidance to ensure that all content and communication with our audiences is accessible, transparent and fair.  

This statement was prepared in February 2026 and was last reviewed in May 2026.  

This website was last tested in February 2026 against the WCAG 2.2 AA standard. 

The test was carried out by a member of our internal digital marketing team. The most viewed pages and distinct page templates were tested both manually and using automated testing tools.
