Target audience: Domestic – owner occupiers

Grant and loan term: nine months from the date of offer

For eligible energy efficiency measures the maximum grant is 75% of the cost of the measure or the maximum funding limit – whichever is the lowest. The maximum funding limit is £7,500 or £9,000 if the household qualifies for the rural uplift. The rural uplift is for those in eligible rural and island postcodes. Applicants can also get an optional interest-free loan to cover the remainder of the cost, up to the maximum amount per measure.

For eligible renewable measures the grant funding is calculated per measure up to the available maximum funding limit. There’s also an optional interest free loan to cover further costs. For example, grant funding for heat pumps is up to £7,500, or £9,000 with the rural uplift.

Grant funding isn’t available for:

• wind or hydro turbines
• warm air units
• solar water heating
• glazing (double/triple/secondary)
• insulated doors
• heat network connections

Energy efficiency measures

Installers must be TrustMark registered for:

• solid wall insulation (external or internal)
• flat roof insulation
• room-in-roof insulation
• floor insulation

Renewable systems

The following systems must be installed by a contractor certified under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) for that system:

• heat pumps
• replacement heat pumps
• biomass boiler/stove
• solar water heating

No certification is needed for micro hydro systems.

Heat network connections

Connections must be carried out by an installer approved by the owner or operator of the scheme. The scheme must also be approved by Energy Saving Trust as eligible for loan support.

Eligibility for heat network connections is assessed at the operator level and requires the operator to apply for eligibility with Energy Saving Trust. This will be assessed on a case-by-case basis and it needs to be fully or partially powered by renewable energy.

Other installation requirements

Self-installation (DIY) of improvements isn’t allowed.

There are no installer requirements for high heat retention storage heaters. However, the product needs to be listed on the Building Energy Performance Assessment support website.

The scheme offers each applicant a total of £130,000 funding. This is made up of the following:

• £100,000 interest free loan.
• 75% of eligible costs up to a maximum of £20,000 can be claimed as a grant for energy efficiency measures.
• 75% of eligible costs up to a maximum of £10,000 can also be claimed as a grant for a range of renewable heat measures (heat pumps, biomass boilers and solar thermal).

Measure that can be applied for include:

• Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning upgrades.
• Renewable heat technologies such as installing an air source heat pump
• Improving insulation, draught-proofing, double or secondary glazing
• Installing LED lighting
• Installing wind turbines and wood-burning stoves.

For renewable technology installations the installer must be MCS certified for the technology being installed. This is required in the following instances:

• For renewable heating technologies when the system is under 45kW.
• For electricity generating technologies when the system is under 50kW.

There are no installer requirements for energy efficiency measures.
