We  ran a series of webinars to help heat pump installers in Scotland learn about products and support from leading manufacturers. These sessions are useful for both new and experienced installers.

• Getting retrofit right: how your work affects building performance – Wednesday 26 August. This webinar with Gloria Lo, Chartered Architect, Consultant and Passivhaus Designer, explains the basics of building physics and why it matters for retrofit.

  In this session, Gloria explains how heat, air and moisture move through a building, and how this affects performance. She looks at how factors like weather, the building fabric and materials all play a role. She also covers key terms, common misunderstandings and what to think about when applying this in practice.

  This session is designed for installers and contractors who want a clearer understanding of how the work they carry out affects the overall performance of a building.

• New SCQF Level 6 Insulation & Building Treatments (IBT) Modern Apprenticeship – Wednesday 20 May. This webinar introduces the fully funded SCQF Level 6 Modern Apprenticeship in Insulation and Building Treatments (IBT), delivered by West Lothian College. It outlines how the workplace-based qualification helps employers upskill existing installers with minimal time away from site, while supporting new entrants to the insulation industry.

• MCS scheme changes – Wednesday 22 April. This is the third webinar with Alex Hughes, Head of Scheme at MCS as we discuss the key changes for installers to the MCS scheme. With the deadline now passed for all certification bodies delivering the new scheme, Alex returns to provide further clarification to help digest the new requirements. • Understanding the Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan: Installer guidance and data insights – Wednesday 25 March. This webinar is designed for renewable heating and insulation installers working in the domestic sector, particularly those with customers applying to the Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan.

  The Scottish Government team responsible for the scheme shared insights on:
   – The latest data published, including how many people are applying and how long applications are taking.
   – Future scheme developments
   – An overview of the policy context for the scheme.

  You will also hear from the team at Energy Saving Trust that administers the scheme on behalf of the Scottish Government. • Understanding ventilation: benefits, challenges and best practice -Wednesday 22 October. Join us and an expert from Ubbink for an informative webinar exploring the role of ventilation in energy-efficient homes.

  As buildings are becoming more airtight to improve energy efficiency it’s vital to ensure they’re well ventilated. • Diversifying the industry: Women’s voices in heat and plumbing – Wednesday 10 September. Join us for a conversation with two women helping shape the future of renewable heating. Emma Bohan, managing director of IMS Heating, and Jessica Rose, a mature apprentice in plumbing and heating, talk about their journeys, the challenges they’ve faced, and what they’ve achieved.

  We’ll explore what stops women and other underrepresented groups from joining the heating and plumbing industry. You’ll hear practical ideas to help break down these barriers and learn how businesses can build inclusive policies. • Behind the pipework: How heating systems really work – Wednesday 20 August. Join us and Warmur Academy for a webinar that breaks down the key parts of heating system design. It’s ideal for heating engineers who want to feel more confidence working with low-temperature systems.

  Led by Kimbo Betty and Jo Alsop, this session gives you a clear understanding of flow, resistance, emitters, and system controls, all with a focus on how modern heating systems, like heat pumps, work. If you’ve found traditional design methods confusing or you’re unsure how to get started with heat pumps, this session will help you make sense of it all.

• SVQ in Insulation and Building Treatments (Construction) qualification – Wednesday 18 June.  Join us for a  webinar introducing the Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) in Insulation and Building Treatments (Construction) at SCQF level 5. This is a hands-on course that helps both new and experienced installers learn new skills.

• Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan: Funding for your customers – Wednesday 21 May. Are you a business in Scotland installing renewable technology or insulation for homeowners? If you’re part of the clean heat supply chain in Scotland, it’s important to understand the funding that’s available to your customers.

  Join us as we explain the customer journey of the Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan with speakers from the services delivery team at Energy Saving Trust and the Scottish Government team responsible for the scheme. • Energy efficiency funding schemes – Wednesday 23 April. Join us for a webinar on Scottish Government and other energy efficiency funding schemes. We provide an update on available funding schemes, including ECO4, the Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS), Warmer Homes Scotland, and more. The session explores how these programmes fit together, their eligibility criteria, and delivery mechanisms, as well as the role of area-based approaches like Local Heat and Energy Efficiency Strategy (LHEES).

• A journey to becoming a heat pump advocate – Wednesday 19 February. An engaging interview-style webinar with Ian Edgeworth, author of Welcome to the Wonderful World of Heat Pumps … What Kept You? Once a sceptic, Ian’s journey to becoming an advocate for clean heat technologies is both relatable and inspiring.   

  A heating engineer for 30 years, Ian has been involved in the design and installation of air source heat pumps since 2012 and for the last 10 years he has been training and upskilling engineers in renewable heating technology. He highlights the challenges, insights, and benefits of embracing heat pump technology, while exploring how upskilling in heat pump installation could secure your business’s future.

• Infrared heating – technology and applications – Wednesday 11 December. This informative webinar is on infrared heating technology, a direct electric heating technology for domestic and non-domestic buildings. The Scottish Government’s Heat in Buildings Bill proposes to phase out fossil fuel heating systems 2045. As we move away from gas and oil boilers to cleaner options like heat networks, heat pumps, and electric heating, it is important to understand infrared heating technology, its suitability and applications. • Why and how to achieve PAS2030 certification and TrustMark registration for your business – Wednesday 23 October. In this webinar you will hear from a TrustMark scheme provider, Installation Assurance Authority (IAA) on the process for installers to meet PAS2030 standards and become TrustMark registered. • An overview of Home Energy Scotland reports – Wednesday 18 September. An informative webinar where we showcase the reports Home Energy Scotland provides to households, highlighting support for PV, batteries, heat pumps, and other energy improvements. This is an excellent opportunity to see how you can use this information to support your clients. This session is especially valuable for installers, as we explain how our advice on these reports directly connects to the Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan application process. • An overview on high heat retention storage heaters – Wednesday 24 July. We invited experts from the manufacturer Glen Dimplex to provide more clarity on the many aspects to consider when installing a high heat retention storage heater. The webinar addresses efficiencies and costs, comparisons with other heating systems and typical scenarios of where it is more suitable. • Procurement guidance – bid better for public sector contracts – 21 February 2024. In partnership with the consultancy firm, SCMG, this webinar introduces our updated procurement guide and provides a step-by-step on how to develop a bid to access public contracts. New initiatives introduced by the Heat in Building Strategy such as the Local Heat Energy Efficiency Strategies (LHEES) bring commercial opportunities to the supply chain working on the retrofit sector.
