Charge point owners have begun migrating their charge points away from the ChargePlace Scotland (CPS) network and this will continue throughout 2026. The current CPS contract will not be renewed once it expires. To ensure a seamless transition, charge point owners have been given the deadline to remove their charge points from the CPS network by the end of 2026, with the network closing down its operations later in 2027.
The CPS Transition Fund supports older and outdated charge points in locations identified as strategically important to the future of Scotland’s electric vehicle (EV) charging network and supports their migration to alternative Charge Point Operators (CPOs) as chosen by owners. This helps the Scottish Government continue to meet its commitment to expand public EV charging by 2030 and builds on the strong foundations created by CPS.
Who is eligible?
Eligible units must meet the following requirements:
Charge points must be listed as part of the CPS public network
Charge points must be at least 5 years old.
Units under 5 years old may be considered where Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) software version 1.5 is in use
Charge points must be located in a rural or island location as defined by the Scottish Government’s 8-fold Urban Rural Classification 5-8. Location classification can be checked below.
Units located in areas out with the 5-8 Urban Rural Classification may be considered where 3 or fewer public charge points can be evidenced within a 5 mile radius.
Charge points must not have previously received funding through the Contactless Compliance Grant rounds 1 or 2 administered by Energy Saving Trust in the financial years 2024-25 and 2025-26.
Applicants must confirm:
They have been unable to migrate their existing unit due to its current age or capabilities
They have not entered into an agreement or contract with a new CPO prior to the CPS Transition Fund launch on 13 July 2026.
They have identified an CPO who has committed to onboarding/hosting a funded device on completion of works.
All owners of eligible sites listed on the CPS register have been identified and contacted advising them to apply for funding.

Funding requirements
Funding will be allocated based on charge point power:
Up to £15,000 per single/dual 3.7-22kW AC charge point.
Up to £30,000 per single/dual 20-49 DC charge point.
Up to £45,000 per single/dual 50-124kW AC charge point.
Up to £60,000 per single/dual 125-350kW AC charge point.
Following completion of works, funded units must be active on an alternative public CPO network and visible on a live public map to receive grant payment.
Funded units must:
Remain active for public use for a minimum of 5 years following grant payment
Be fully compliant with OCPP 1.6 at time of installation and throughout its operational life
