Modern anti-slavery statement

Introduction

Energy Saving Trust is working to address the climate emergency. We recognise that a fair, just and inclusive transition to net zero must be free from exploitation. Upholding human rights and protecting vulnerable people is essential to our mission. It also reflects our values of being expert, impartial, collaborative, innovative, determined and supportive.

Our behaviours – being inclusive, innovative and commercially minded – shape how we work with colleagues, partners and suppliers. They help ensure dignity, fairness and respect in everything we do.

This statement is made pursuant to Section 54(1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015. It outlines the steps taken by Energy Saving Trust and its relevant group companies during the financial year ending 31 March 2026 to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking within our organisation and supply chains.

Our structure, operations and supply chains

We are a UK-based organisation delivering government-funded programmes, consultancy services and energy advice to households, communities and businesses. We operate from offices in Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh, London and Hadleigh.

While most of our activity take place in the UK, some of our consultancy and partnership work involves stakeholders located overseas. We recognise that international supply chains and operations – particularly in higher-risk regions – require greater awareness and vigilance. We therefore take a cautious approach when working with partners or and suppliers based outside the UK.

Policies, processes and controls

We maintain a suite of policies that reinforce our zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery, child labour, exploitation of vulnerable persons and human trafficking. These policies apply to all colleagues and align with our values and expected behaviours.

Our zero tolerance stance applies to:

  • Child labour, including work that is mentally, physically, socially or morally harmful to children.
  • Forced, bonded or involuntary labour.
  • Human trafficking in all forms.
  • Exploitation of vulnerable persons.
  • Practices that deprive individuals of dignity, freedom or fundamental rights.

Embedding the principles

We will continue to embed the principles by:

  • Conducting right to work checks for all colleagues.
  • Only using approved recruitment agencies that meet ethical and legal standards.
  • Requiring suppliers to confirm compliance with the Modern Slavery Act and broader ethical expectations.
  • Providing accessible and confidential whistleblowing channels aligned with our inclusive and supportive behaviours.
  • Including explicit modern slavery, exploitation and safeguarding obligations into our contract management.
  • Applying sustainable procurement principles to ensure responsible and commercially minded decision making.
  • Protecting vulnerable customers through our Customers in Vulnerable Circumstances Policy.
  • Developing the future Supplier Code of Conduct and Supplier Due Diligence Framework to strengthen oversight of suppliers and ethical expectations.

Monitoring effectiveness

We monitor the effectiveness of our approach through:

  • Reviews of supplier onboarding and due diligence findings.
  • Monitoring concerns raised through whistleblowing channels.
  • Annual review of relevant policies and procedures.
  • Conducting risk based compliance checks, aligned with supplier risk ratings, to ensure proportionate and ongoing oversight.

Governance, approval and review

This statement was approved by the Board of Energy Saving Trust and signed by the Chief Executive Officer on 25 March 2026.
