Energy Saving Trust CEO joins editorial board of net zero knowledge hub

Mike Thornton, Chief Executive, Energy Saving Trust, has joined the editorial board of a new online knowledge hub designed to inform, educate and connect people and organisations working to achieve net zero emissions.

The new portal, unlocknetzero.co.uk, aims to inform audiences about the technologies, infrastructure and behaviour changes needed to reach net zero in the UK. It will explain how the country can transition to a net zero future in practical terms.

In 2019, the UK Government became the first major world economy to make a legally binding commitment to net zero emissions by 2050. This ambition will require extensive innovation across the UK energy system, as well as a transformation across all sectors and industries.

The editorial board of unlocknetzero.co.uk will advise on the direction of content shared through the platform. Mike Thornton joins other senior executives from government agencies and private and public sector organisations working in the built environment and energy sectors.

Commenting on the news, Chief Executive Mike Thornton said: “The climate emergency has most definitely not gone away; unfortunately, it is intensifying so we need to remain focused on the vital and achievable goal of the UK meeting its net zero target by 2050.

“2021 presents the opportunity for a green recovery from Covid-19, so right now informing, advising and empowering people and organisations on the why and how of the transition to net zero is crucial. I am looking forward to working with my fellow editorial board members and contributing to unlocknetzero’s part in this important task.”
