Energy Saving Trust has appointed experienced non-executive director and growth strategy professional Barbara Anderson as the new chair to its board of directors. Barbara will formally take on the role at the next group board meeting on 12 September, succeeding Neil Sachdev who completed his term as chair in July 2022.
Barbara brings over 18 years’ experience as a non-executive director and chair and is currently a board member for organisations including major affordable housing developer, Sovereign Housing Association, and the UK’s smart meter data network provider, SmartDCC. Barbara was also previously on the board of Re:London, a partnership to reduce waste and improve recycling in the capital.
Barbara is joining Energy Saving Trust at a time of rapid expansion as it ramps up efforts to achieve its mission to address the climate emergency. With an extensive background in venture capital and corporate finance, she brings with her a vital track record in driving growth, strategic partnerships, technology-led change and embracing positive change in support of environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors.
Having received both an MPhil and her MA and Diplomas in Architecture from the University of Cambridge, Barbara brings a longstanding personal interest in sustainable communities and responsible design. These are both themes that are set to play an important role as we transition to a net zero society.
Matthew Bell, non-executive director at Energy Saving Trust, said: “We are delighted to welcome Barbara to our group board. Widespread action is needed to reduce carbon emissions if we are to maintain a liveable environment for the future. At Energy Saving Trust a key part of our strategy to increase the pace and impact of our work is designed to help households manage current and future energy cost crises, while reducing emissions. We need to scale up our activities and reach more people. We’re looking forward to working with Barbara to help achieve that.”
Barbara Anderson said: “I am honoured to be joining Energy Saving Trust at such a pivotal time for the company and for the sector. Where energy comes from, how much we use and how it impacts the environment has never been more important for us all. As a trusted and independent voice with 30 years’ sector experience, Energy Saving Trust is well placed to drive real and positive change and I’m excited to play a key role in maximising its impact.”
