To provide sustainable energy access for all, we urgently need to enhance the efficiency and affordability of high-performing appliances. Around 789 million people live without access to electricity or electric appliances that boost productivity or provide cooling, refrigeration, and communications. While an estimated 441 million people have gained access to energy since 2010, a further 660 million people will still not have access to electricity in 2030.

The Efficiency for Access Design Challenge invites teams of university students to create affordable and high-performing solar-powered appliances and supportive technologies. As co-secretariat of Efficiency for Access, Energy Saving Trust delivers the Challenge with the support of Engineers Without Borders UK.

The Grand Final will showcase some of the amazing submissions we have received this year, as well as a prize giving ceremony where we recognise student teams with the most innovative designs. Featuring a panel discussion, ‘How can early career professionals influence sustainable growth in the solar appliance sector?’, it will give you the chance to hear insights into the future of the solar appliance sector.

The event begins at 10.00am BST and will finish at 12.00pm BST. This is an online event and you can register your attendance for free below.
