Leading the discussion on energy efficiency at home, we will bring an expert panel to help people improve energy efficiency in their homes. We will cover the everyday activities that cost the most – in both carbon and money terms – introducing our audience to new techniques and habits to reduce energy use. We will also explore new innovations that can make a long-term difference to your environmental impact.

Energy Saving Trust at Grand Designs Live

Our panellists can be seen on the Grand Theatre stage at 1pm on 4 May for the ‘Low carbon living: saving energy at home’ session. The discussion will be moderated by Jessica Forster, assistant evaluation manager. Our panellists will include Becca Pickavance, policy officer for UK Parliament and England, Brian Horne, senior insights and analytics consultant and Ben Whittle, senior analyst. We will also be joined by a guest speaker to be confirmed soon.

Later in the programme, Ben and Brian will be joined by a special guest panellist from the Royal Institute of British Architects providing in-depth advice on heat pumps on the Grand Theatre at 3pm. The discussion will cover how to find the right heat pump for your home, as well as advice on the installation process and how to get the design and aesthetics right.

Reducing reliance on fossil fuels

To reach net zero targets, we all need to change how we use energy in and outside of our homes. We will also need to look to renewable energy sources to power our technologies and appliances. This will require a transition away from gas boilers to low carbon heat pumps, as well as a switch to electric vehicles from petrol or diesel cars, to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels.

At Grand Designs Live, we will share our insights and experience in adopting low carbon technologies and helping people understand how they can reduce energy use while living a happier and more comfortable life.
