Local authorities are having to re-think their strategy when it comes to the best way to operate and support people and businesses long-term.  

This conference will give delegates an insight into how some councils are using collaboration and innovation to address the challenges they’re facing.

Join us for this event to connect with people who aspire to make their local authority thrive.  

We’ll be speaking at 9.40am and telling delegates about what support and funding we offer local authorities when it comes to transport decarbonisation.

  • 9am – Chair’s welcome address by Emma Maier, director, Ask Why 
  • 9.10am – Opening keynote address: the importance of local government in a time of uncertainty by Councillor Dr Kevin Maguire, lord mayor of Norwich, Labour councillor for Wensum Ward 

  • 9.40am – A just transition: fully funded support for local authorities to implement their net zero transport ambitions by Nick Harvey, senior programme manager – net zero transport, Energy Saving Trust 

  • 10am – Question and answer panel session with Emma Maier; Councillor Dr Kevin Maguire and Nick Harvey

  • 11.10am – Case study: putting inclusive growth into practice in the West Midlands by Si Chun Lam, head of research, intelligence and inclusive growth, West Midlands combined authority 

  • 11.30am – Case study: the living rent commission: making Bristol an affordable place to live by Councillor Tom Renhard, Labour & co-operative councillor for Horfield Ward, cabinet member with responsibility for housing delivery and homes 

  • 11.50am – Panel session: addressing the housing crisis with innovative approaches with Emma Maier; James Prestwich, UK policy director, CiH; Dr Frances Harkin, head of services, HACT; and Craig Jordan, interim head of development, Stafford Borough Council
