Cross-pavement charging grant

Location notice

Please note that this page contains information and links most relevant for people living in Scotland.

Struggling to charge your EV at home without a driveway? This grant could help.

If you live in Scotland and don’t have off-street parking, charging your electric vehicle (EV) at home can be tricky. Running cables across pavements isn’t safe, and you might not live near a public charger.

Funded by Transport Scotland, the cross-pavement charging grant offers up to £3,500* to help you install a cross-pavement charging solution, so you can charge your EV safely and easily from home.

This grant helps you install a practical solution that makes home charging possible, even without a driveway.

The following local authorities have confirmed they are open to accepting cross-pavement EV charging permit applications:

  • East Lothian
  • Perth and Kinross
  • Renfrewshire

Permits will be assessed on a case-by-case basis by the relevant local authority.

Please only submit a cross-pavement charging grant application if your local authority is included on this list.

Applications from areas where the local authority is not currently accepting cross-pavement EV charging permit applications will not be processed.

Am I eligible?

You can apply for the grant if you:

  • Have permission from your council/pavement maintainer to install your chosen cross-pavement charging solution.
  • Have, or can show you will soon have, an electric vehicle (EV).
  • Have, or can show you will soon have, a charge point unit.

You can download our 26/27 eligibility criteria to check if you’re eligible and see what’s involved.

How do I apply for the grant?

  • Review the terms and conditions before starting your application.
  • Seek permission from your Local Authority or other pavement maintainer to install a cross-pavement charging solution at your address. You can contact your Local Authority directly, or your chosen cross-pavement installer may be able to do this on your behalf.
  • Once you have permission from your local authority to install a cross-pavement solution, complete our online application using the link below.

Please be aware that we cannot fund cross-pavement charging solution installations where the work has begun or is complete before we send you your grant offer letter. If you go ahead with installation before receiving the grant offer letter, you won’t be eligible for funding.

What can I do if my local authority is not listed?

If you’re interested in installing a cross-pavement charging solution but your local authority isn’t listed, we recommend contacting your local authority directly for advice on your options.

You can join our register of interest if you live in a local authority that isn’t currently accepting cross-pavement permit applications.

We’ll use this information to let you know if your local authority begins to accept cross-pavement permits.
