Meet our grantees

Craftspace, based in Birmingham, is delivering the Making for Climate Change programme. In year one it worked with 50 LGBTQ+ young people to explore craftivism through the lens of the Climate Emergency. The project focuses on enabling young people to have a voice about the climate emergency through craft making.

In year two the project will engage with D/deaf young people.  

Handsworth Association of Schools is working with children, young people and families in north Birmingham. This funding supports a ‘Green Mentor’ to work across a network of schools with up to 800 students over the two-year funding.

Students are learning about carbon reduction and how they can make practical changes in their schools. They’re also building capacity within schools to deliver the message of carbon reduction to children by creating training and resources for teachers. 

Growth Path Services  works with young people who often have little opportunity to engage with nature due to the immediacy of the personal issues they face. This project is providing practical training for young people to jumpstart their careers in the environment sector. The trainees also receive accredited entry level qualifications, work experience and one-to-one support. In year one, five trainees engaged in the programme.  

West Bromwich-based charity Multistory is working with local organisations to use creativity and the arts to get young people involved in climate activism. 

Multistory is expanding their ‘Green Roots’ programme, which engages young people and racially minoritised communities with their local environment. The project aims to reach young people who face barriers to engaging in, and leading work on, climate change.  

The young people are engaged in: 

• Practical conservation activities such as wood carving and planting. 
• Creative sessions on storytelling and photography. 
• Workshops on eco-activism and environmental justice. 

Birmingham & Black Country Wildlife Trust provided support to the four West Midlands grantee organisations in their first six months through: 

• providing advice 
• connecting to other suitable organisations 
• providing training to young people and organisations 

Action for Conservation works across Greater Manchester and Merseyside to inspire and empower young people from diverse backgrounds to become the next generation of environmental leaders. It delivers a programme of workshops, inspiration days, residential camps and ambassador programmes to over 300 young people.   

Made by Mortals CIC, based in Manchester, is working with three primary schools in Tameside to coproduce interactive audio stories/podcasts. These are exploring environmental themes such as recycling, food waste, reuse and reduction and shopping alternatively. 

More Music in Morecombe is a community music, arts and education charity. It supportsa team of 12 young people to lead the development and production of a climate change festival in summer 2025. The organisation is also working with local primary schools and has so far reached 220 pupils. 

Autismable, based in South Shields, Tyne and Wear, is delivering a series of workshops for autistic young people in their community. These are designed to raise environmental awareness, promote energy efficiency and knowledge of clean energy.

The young people are also setting up a small-scale renewable energy project within their community. 

Building Self Belief CIO, based in County Durham, is delivering the ‘Tow Law Eco-Youth Ambassadors’ project. This will enable and empower 20 young people to preserve and enhance their shared environment.

The project will culminate in a community celebration event and documentary film to educate the wider community around environmental issues.  

Three13 Training and Enterprise Ltd, based in Tees Valley, is providing vocational training in the circular economy to care experienced young people. Each year, eight young people engage in a work-based training programme to gain vocational qualifications as they establish a local circular economy loop. They’re already recycling 100% food waste from their onsite café and estimate they’ve produced 200 litres of compost so far. 

Triangular CIO are delivering a two-year initiative to educate and empower young people aged 16 to 25 from refugee backgrounds in Tyne and Wear. Focusing on climate change and displacement, the organisation is delivering a range of workshops and support and empower young people to undertake community outreach work. 

SCORE Scotland is a multi-cultural, anti-racist, Black and minority ethnic community-led organisation based in Edinburgh. The organisation engages 160 local black and minority ethnic young people to enhance their climate literacy through workshops, inspirational visits, volunteering and support with campaigning. 

Scottish Youth Film Foundation, based in Edinburgh, works with young people to train them as journalists at the Scottish Parliament Festival of Politics, focusing on the climate emergency. In year one the organisation worked with six young people who produced nightly broadcasts.  

South Riverside Community Development Centre, based in Cardiff, aims to inspire young people and their families to design and develop a bilingual climate change computer game for schools. 

SWANSEA MAD is delivering weekly workshops where young people use virtual reality to explore different landscapes, environments and habitats. The young people are developing new STEM skills in programming and plan to create a weather station at Kilvey Hill (a woodland and refuge for wildlife in the city). It also delivers regular outreach activities to a school in Swansea, working with pupils who have a wide range of severe, complex and specific additional learning needs. Over a series of workshops, the young people created a stop motion animation around plastic pollution. 

Windswept CIC is a non-profit watersports centre based in outh Pembrokeshire. It delivers a marine conservation programme, enabling young people to learn new skills in conservation and seagrass restoration. So far it hasengaged six care experienced young people to help kickstart careers in the outdoor and environmental sector. 

Youth Cymru is a Wales wide youth work charity. It engages young people in sustainability workshops, youth led social action projects and digital campaigns in Newport and north east Wales. 

Diverse Youth NI is engaging young people, primarily from Black and minority ethnic communities, including asylum seekers and refugees, in its Sustainable Youth project. This project engages 50 young people from north and outh Belfast in hands-on environmentally focused activities.

Using the Sustainable Youth framework, the organisation empowers participants to lead climate action through educational workshops, digital tools and project-based learning. 

Politics in Action is helping young people to achieve social change on issues that matter to them. The funding is supporting its project to help young people from Divis, Lower Shankill and across Northern Ireland explore the impacts of climate change on their communities.

It supports young people to campaign on environmental issues in their communities and across Northern Ireland, and to bring these issues to politicians and others to press for action.  

Belfast based Swift Hearers Youth  supports the empowerment of young people from diverse ethnic and social backgrounds to fulfil their potential in their communities and beyond. The project is designed and delivered by young people to raise climate change awareness through a variety of engaging and educational activities.

The project involves community outreach, partnering with local businesses and organisations with the aim of fostering a wider commitment to environmental sustainability.  

Ulster Wildlife has supported the delivery of the Youth Climate Action Fund in Northern Ireland through supporting the Foundation with the grantmaking process. It has also delivered training to the three organisations to ensure high quality delivering of the Sustainable Youth Framework.
