Low carbon living: saving energy at home

Grand Designs Magazine Theatre, 12pm, 3 May

Changing your habits at home can help you save energy and money on your bills. Some common household items are more energy consuming than others and it can be difficult to know how to use them efficiently to help you reduce your energy bill. Here, we will explore low carbon living and the greenest way to heat your home. The discussion will be moderated by Jessica Forster, our project manager. Our panellists will include Brian Horne, our technical knowledge lead and Ben Whittle, our senior analyst.

Saving energy at home with a heat pump (myth busting)

Grand Designs Magazine Theatre, 3pm, 3 May

Later in the programme Brian and Ben will be talking all things heat pumps. Electricity is becoming increasingly low carbon, as more renewable sources are connected to the electricity grid, replacing existing gas and coal power stations. This makes a heat pump an extremely low carbon heating option, and increasingly so as our electricity grid further decarbonises. The session will be hosted by Kunle Barker.

Saving energy with smart systems

Sustainable Future Theatre, 2pm, 3 May

When considering smart home systems, it can be difficult to understand how they can help you save on your energy bill. Join us as we look at the future of home energy systems and how smart control and flexible operation can optimise costs and save carbon.

Small electric vehicles – thinking beyond the car

Sustainable Future Theatre, 1pm, 7 May

There’s a huge range of zero emission Powered Light Vehicles (zePLVs) available that could have a big part to play in decarbonising how we travel, whether that’s commuting, picking up shopping or getting deliveries. Hear about what’s available and how can they be used.
