EEIG calls for improved energy efficiency in response to gas crisis

A leading coalition of businesses, green and fuel poverty groups has written to Prime Minister Boris Johnson to ask that home energy efficiency is prioritised in the UK Government’s response to the ongoing gas crisis.

The Energy Efficiency Infrastructure Group (EEIG), of which Energy Saving Trust is a member, says that homes with better insulation could see savings of more than £500 a year on their energy bills. EEIG also estimates that renewed energy efficiency policy could save the UK £7.8 billion each year.

The coalition group highlights the need for emergency short-term measures for the most vulnerable households hit by soaring energy bills, but also for the government to focus on building the UK’s long-term resilience and reducing the country’s exposure to future crises.
