Energy Saving Trust joins call to supercharge electric heat pumps ahead of Energy Security Strategy

A coalition of the UK’s leading energy companies, heat pump manufacturers and energy consumer organisations, including Energy Saving Trust, has issued a joint statement calling for support for heat pumps to help the UK reduce dependence on gas.

The statement, coordinated by the Electrify Heat campaign group, calls on the Prime Minister to use the imminent Energy Security Strategy to set out a plan to move away from gas, which promotes a long-term cut in our demand for gas in heating our homes through low carbon heating systems – like heat pumps – and energy efficiency measures.

The statement sets out recommendations including removing legacy costs from electricity bills, boosting grant funding for mid- to low-income households, providing training opportunities to grow the heat pump workforce, and launching a nationwide consumer awareness and advice drive to support people to heat their homes efficiently.

The Electrify Heat campaign is the first of its kind in the UK and calls for the fastest possible switch to affordable, zero carbon, clean and safe heating for UK homes, through the widescale adoption of electric heat pump technology.
