How to save money on my energy bills
How much does electricity and gas cost today?
Between 1 April and 30 June 2024, Ofgem’s energy price cap limits the unit cost of electricity to 25p per kilowatt hour (kWh) and 6p per kWh for gas.
During this time, typical households in England, Scotland and Wales will pay around £1,690 annually on energy bills.
And Ofgem has confirmed that average energy bills from 1 July to 30 September will be £1,568 a year – £122 less than the previous energy price cap.
For more information, read our guide to the energy price cap . If you live in Northern Ireland, visit Utility Regulator to see how your bills compare.
What extra financial help is still available towards energy bills?
While support for most households has ended, cost of living payments for low-income households, disabled people and pensioners will continue until spring 2024. More information can be found on the government’s website .
What happens from if I'm on a pre-payment meter?
If you’re on a pre-payment meter you will now pay the same cost per unit of energy as people who pay by direct debit. This is good news because people on pre-payment meters were paying more.
If you have a pre-payment meter your energy supplier should apply the new rate automatically. You don’t need to apply or process any vouchers.
