We’re focussing on Northern Ireland in the next couple of weeks, as we gear up for Energy Saving Week Northern Ireland on 18 – 22 November. This annual event encourages everyone to focus on energy and water saving.
Northern Ireland’s population has grown steadily over the last decade and there are now over 1.8 million people in the province. Unlike the rest of the UK, many of Northern Ireland’s homes are not yet on the gas network and with far fewer suppliers, it’s often not possible to save money by switching. All this makes it more important than ever to use energy efficiently in your home.
Did you know around 46% of people still need to draught-proof their windows and doors? This relatively low-cost method of insulation could save Northern Irish households a total of £9.9 million per year.
Energy Saving Trust research has found that 42% of people avoid switching on the heating during colder months, due to worries about energy bills.
During the course of the week there’ll be lots of tips and advice to help you save energy and water, which all contributes to saving money on your bills and mitigating climate change by reducing emissions of greenhouse gases. Look out for our posts on Facebook and Twitter with the #EnergySavingWeekNI2019 hashtag.
Amazing Energy Savers NI
Energy Saving Trust is running an Amazing Energy Savers NI competition in the run up to Energy Saving Week itself, to get you into the swing of energy saving.
We’re asking you to send us a photo of you with your friends and family showing us what you do to save energy or water around your home. The competition is open to all Northern Ireland residents, with a Smart Controls package, supplied by Power NI, plus installation from an accredited engineer worth £300 up for grabs.
You MUST live in Northern Ireland to be eligible for the prize.
All entries must be submitted via email to enquiriesni@est.org.uk between 4 and 17 November.
Please send us your entries in JPEG or PNG format – no bigger than 10MB.
You can see the full terms and conditions below.
Our panel of energy saving experts will judge all the eligible entries and pick a winner during Energy Saving Week NI itself.
We’ll publish some of our favourite entries on our Twitter and Facebook feeds. You can follow the competition on the #AmazingEnergySavers hashtag, as well as seeing entries on our website over the course of the competition.
