Are you a dynamic and motivated research analyst with a passion for working in sustainable development?
The research analyst is a pivotal role in the international team with a mission to enhance strategic decision-making and impactful interventions in the energy access sector through evidence-based, high-quality, and collaborative research.
The team
This is an exciting opportunity to join Energy Saving Trust’s growing energy access team working within the international team to develop and deliver our global portfolio of work.
You’ll be part of a team working to make a positive impact on the lives of people and businesses in the Global South, primarily in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. You’ll support the delivery of our multi-annual and multi-million-pound initiatives funded by UK Aid, from the UK Government via the Transforming Energy Access (TEA) platform, and the IKEA Foundation and jointly managed with our partner CLASP.
- The Low Energy Inclusive Appliances programme is a research and innovation programme that seeks to improve the efficiency, performance, availability and affordability of a range of household, community and productive use solar appliances and technologies. It’s the flagship initiative of Efficiency for Access.
- Efficiency for Access is a global coalition working to accelerating the uptake of off and weak-grid appliances to boost incomes, reduce carbon emissions, improve quality of life, and support sustainable development.
The role
Are you an enthusiastic researcher with a keen interest in international development? We are seeking a research analyst to join Energy Saving Trust’s international team, working closely with a small group of researchers, specialist consultants, and external partners on projects focused on Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.
In this role, you will be at the heart of our efforts to gather evidence and inform decisionmakers to deploy high-performing off- and weak-grid appliances. You will stay on top of the latest market and technology trends, investigate end-user needs, navigate complex policy landscapes, and assess the social, environmental, and economic impacts of solar-powered appliances. Through state-of-the-art research, tailored data analyses, and stakeholder consultations, you will help to generate actionable recommendations for the energy access sector.
What you’ll do
You will be responsible for delivering a portfolio of research projects within Energy Saving Trust’s energy access work by contributing towards the production of high-quality research outputs, including technical assessments that will feed into publicly facing reports. You will conduct efficient literature reviews, write clear and concise synopses, and analyse complex datasets to extract actionable insights.
Your role will involve supporting effective project management, ensuring that research outputs are delivered on time, within budget, and in alignment with our funders’ requirements. You will assist in the preparation and management of tender processes and subsequent subcontracting agreements for external consultants and other research partners.
Stakeholder engagement will be key, as you establish, maintain, and develop strong, collaborative relationships with relevant stakeholders. You will gather new evidence and data from these stakeholders and present technical findings in an accessible way to solidify Energy Saving Trust’s position as a knowledge leader in the energy access sector and important “nexus” sectors, including agriculture, humanitarian and health.
What you’ll bring
We’re looking for someone who is values-driven and wants to work for a cause that they believe in. Our ideal candidate will have relevant qualification or experience relating to energy access matters in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia including off- and weak-grid technologies and market barriers. You will bring strong data analysis skills and experience in delivering user-centric research.
We are looking for someone who:
- Can write technical reports and produce concise literature reviews.
- Has a keen eye for detail when conducting complex analyses.
- Has excellent organisational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritise your workload effectively and coordinate multiple projects and tasks in parallel within exacting deadlines.
- Is highly self-motivated, able to work independently, take initiative, solve problems, and make actionable recommendations.
- Can quickly learn new systems and processes, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
- Has a collaborative mindset, with the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams and engage with partners and other key stakeholders.
- Possesses excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills, with a commitment to working with diverse people from different cultures, backgrounds and fields.
- Is willing to engage with and support our efforts to become a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable organisation.
